Project Overview and Key Features

The website had to go beyond the organization’s previous social media approach, which made it difficult for adopters to find specific dogs among the many being sheltered. To make the adoption process more accessible, I developed a custom post type specifically for dogs, complete with filterable attributes like size, sex, coat length, and activity level. I built the filtering system from scratch, ensuring that each selection dynamically updates the page content by adding query parameters to the URL—allowing users to easily share specific searches with others.

In addition to facilitating adoptions, the website needed a streamlined way to support donations. I integrated the Give plugin, allowing visitors to donate directly through PayPal, helping Ravno Štit Ćuprija cover essential costs for care and medical treatment.

Design Choices and Additional Content

The design focuses on simplicity and professionalism to convey trustworthiness, using a minimalist color scheme with white backgrounds, black text, and dark blue for headings. Interactive elements like buttons stand out in a bright yellow, ensuring they’re visible and inviting to users.

Beyond dog profiles, I added a few key sections to provide valuable resources to prospective adopters. These include a blog for articles on the adoption process and tips for new dog owners, an FAQ post type to address common questions, and a page featuring adoption success stories, where adopters share their experiences. These sections enhance the user experience and deepen the connection between the organization and its supporters.

This project was not only an exercise in custom WordPress development but also a chance to contribute to a cause that’s personally meaningful. By building this platform, I aimed to support Ravno Štit Ćuprija in finding homes for more dogs and providing them a sustainable way to continue their work.
